Sheriff's officials respond after vehicle falls through ice on Beaver Dam Lake

BEAVER DAM (WITI) -- Dodge County Sheriff's officials responded after a vehicle fell through ice into the Beaver Dam Lake.

Officials say just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, 19-year-old Kyle Daniels was driving his car onto the ice when it broke through and submerged up to the roof.

Daniels was reportedly standing on the roof when he called 911. Daniels was able to get away from the vehicle and walk to the Beaver Dam Fire Department hovercraft that was searching for him and his vehicle.

He was brought to shore by the hovercraft and did not request medical treatment.  

Officials say open water was reported in an area not far from where the car broke through.  This area is generally described as being near the group of islands north of Airport Rd on the southwest portion of the lake. 

Recent strong winds and a relatively mild winter have created ice conditions that vary on area lakes as well as open water areas and heaves.  Motor vehicle traffic is discouraged on the ice and extreme caution should be used, especially during darkness.
