Serious crash in Caledonia: Two taken to the hospital, one via Flight for Life

CALEDONIA (WITI) -- Two people were taken to the hospital on Tuesday, July 29th -- one of them via Flight for Life, after a serious crash in Caledonia.

It happened just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Nicholson Road at 5 Mile Road in the Village of Caledonia.

Caledonia police say their preliminary investigation has revealed that a vehicle headed eastbound on 5 Mile Road failed to stop for a posted stop sign, and collided with a vehicle headed southbound on Nicholson Road.

The vehicles came to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The driver of the striking vehicle (a 53-year-old Racine woman) was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and the driver of the vehicle that was struck (a 36-year-old Racine man) was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital.

Caledonia police say they are investigating the possibility a utility truck working at the intersection may have obstructed the view of the stop sign for eastbound traffic.

This accident remains under investigation.

Police say alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.
