MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- September is all about savings, because it's National Coupon Month -- and these days, snagging a good deal is even easier that it used to be!
"National Coupon Month is a great opportunity for consumers to take a look at their shopping habits and make sure they're shopping smart as possibly as they can," Trae Bodge, the senior lifestyle editor with RetailMeNot.com said.
The days of grabbing a pair of scissors and clipping coupons is becoming a thing of the past.
"I just think a lot of us these days, we don't have time to look for printable coupons and clip them out," Bodge said.
A recent survey finds the use of paper coupons has dropped 15 percent over the past four years. The use of digital coupons is up more than 10 percent.
"Digital coupons are becoming very, very popular. Online and mobile coupons in particular and printable are taking a back seat," Bodge said.
That means when you're hunting for deals, it's important to look through your newspapers and online. Doing both can mean big savings.
If you aren't looking for coupons, think of the month of September as a good time to change that.
"I would urge consumers who are not looking for coupons regularly to do an experiment and look for coupons for the next several purchases. Once you realize how much you can save, how quick and easy it is to do so, you'll get into the habit and just do it all the time," Bodge said.
