SENTENCED: 25-year-old man faced several charges in attempted armed robbery of McDonald's

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- He faced multiple charges in connection with a robbery attempt on a McDonald's restaurant on Milwaukee's north side, and now, 25-year-old Jamal Hardy has reached a plea deal in the case against him, and he has been sentenced.

Hardy faced four charges in this case, including: one count of theft of movable property, one count of attempted armed robbery with threat of force, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of resisting or obstructing an officer.

In court on Wednesday, October 29th, the disorderly conduct charge was dismissed as a result of Hardy's guilty plea to the other three charges.

On the theft of movable property charge, Hardy was sentenced to nine months in the House of Correction.

As for the attempted armed robbery with threat of force charge, Hardy was sentenced to 24 months in prison (with credit for 112 days served) and 24 months of extended supervision. That sentence was stayed, and Hardy was sentenced to three years probation.

The resisting or obstructing an officer charge netted Hardy a sentence of nine months in the House of Correction.

The House of Correction sentences are to be served concurrently, so Hardy will serve nine months total in the HOC, and he will be on probation for three years.

According to the criminal complaint, Hardy walked into a McDonald’s on E. Capitol Drive on March 10th, 2014 and attempted to rob the cashier by implying that he had a weapon. Hardy fled from the scene in a cab.

Officers found Hardy in the cab a short time later near 37th and Hampton Ave. and took him into custody.

Investigating officers later found stolen property on Hardy and discovered that he had stolen a victim’s purse from her car earlier in the day.

Hardy was taken to a medical facility after making a request to go there. During discharge, Hardy tried to run away from officers and became aggressive with them before he was arrested.

Hardy has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2007.
