Sendik's donates food, money to Feeding America

The generosity of countless people was on display Tuesday as 58,000 pounds of food and a $44,000 check was dropped off by Balestreri owned Sendik's stores at Feeding America's eastern Wisconsin warehouse. Four years ago, Sendik's stores began putting together promotional events to raise money and food for Feeding America.

Two semis rolled into the warehouse Tuesday, and food donated by Sendik's customers was unloaded, and will help fill hungry bellies this holiday season. Nick Balistreri with Sendik's says customers understand the need, and are excited for the opportunity to help.

Feeding America officials say that need is great this year, and the almost 60,000 pounds of food donated Tuesday is expected to last just one day at Feeding America. The food will be distributed to 1,000 food pantries and meal programs, helping 330,000 people in eastern Wisconsin.

Nick Balistreri says Sendik's plans to keep the tradition going year after year, knowing the great impact it has on the community by providing those in need with balanced meals. "We're already brainstorming ideas for our next partnership with Feeding America to see what we can do to make it new and exciting again," Balestreri said.
