Sendik's actively exploring locations in downtown Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Business Journal previously reported that Sendik's Food Market had been interested in bringing a location to downtown Milwaukee. But what sparked the locally owned supermarket chain's interest in the area?
During an interview for this week's Business Journal cover story, Mark Birmingham, executive director of new business development at Sendik's, said that the "renaissance" happening in downtown Milwaukee — including the construction of the new Northwestern Mutual building and other projects and high-rises — was among the reasons that intrigued the company enough to take a closer look at their options in the heart of the city.
People and businesses are beginning to migrate from the suburbs to the downtown, Birmingham said, and the company is "actively exploring" a number of possibilities in the area to see if they can serve those groups.
