Search of water in downtown Milwaukee suspended for Monday night

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Fire officials, the U.S. Coast Guard and Milwaukee Police were searching the water in downtown Milwaukee on Monday night, August 19th for a missing individual.

Officials at the scene told FOX6 News at least one swimmer went missing in the water in downtown Milwaukee, but due to the number of personal items found near the scene, officials believed there may have been more than one individual in the water.

Crews searched the water Monday night, but that search did not turn up anything.

A Fire Chief at the scene told FOX6 News that if there was a second individual in the water, due to the temperature of the water and the time the person was in the water, it would likely be a recovery mission from here on out.

Crews suspended their search efforts around 11:30 Monday night, and Milwaukee Fire officials said it was undetermined whether they would head back out on Tuesday morning.

However, the U.S. Coast Guard plans to resume the search on Tuesday at dawn.
