School bus involved in crash near Highway 164

WAUKESHA –The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department reported a traffic accident involving a school bus and an SUV.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Thursday near Highway 164 and Lawnsdale. Officials believe the accident could have been the result of a chain reaction.

The school bus was transporting more than a dozen students to Waukesha West High School. Eight students were evaluated at the scene, and several reported headaches or bruises.  Officials say one female student was transported to the hospital due to minor injures.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the school bus ran a red light, causing the collision. The crash caused a chain reaction, causing two other vehicles in the intersection to collide.

The female driver of the SUV was trapped in her vehicle after the collision, and had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown, but is believe to be non-life-threatening.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
