Salmonella outbreak hits Milwaukee and Waukesha County

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- The latest salmonella outbreak is getting worse as more Americans are getting sick. Some of the infected are in Wisconsin, and many are wondering just what made them sick.

The outbreak has been reported in 19 states and the District of Columbia, which has some people thinking twice about what they're eating. "We think it is linked to a food product, but we have yet to identify that specific food product. Some of the products that have been mentioned are sushi, sashimi and similar food products, and the ingredients that go into making those," Director of Disease Control and Environmental Health for the Milwaukee Health Department Paul Biedrzycki said.

As of the writing of this article, there are nine confirmed cases of salmonella in Wisconsin. No deaths have been reported, and officials continue to investigate.
