Renaming and remodeling Paliafito Park in Milwaukee begins with a groundbreaking
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee's Paliafito Park is about to get a big makeover -- and it will be all thanks to the community!
Over the next year or two, Milwaukee Public School students and their families, along with people in the community, will help transform the 1/2 acre plot of land near 3rd and Walker.
A groundbreaking was held on Saturday, April 18th.
Plans include an outdoor public art gallery, an amphitheater for workshops and performances, and community gardens.
Mayor Tom Barrett says it's all about bringing people together.
"It's all about my commitment to neighborhoods, it's all about commitment to making sure we have people who get to know each other. Because this is how you weave a stronger city, by having more places where people can come safely and get to know each other," said Mayor Barrett.
With the new facelift, the park will be renamed the 'Paliafito Eco-Arts Park.'
The park is set to be completed in about a year and a half.
