Ramp from I-794 to SB I-43/94 in Marquette Interchange to close
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The ramp from I-794 to southbound I-43/94 in the Marquette Interchange will close starting Monday, May 6th. It will remain closed until late August.
"It is going to be a handful for the first couple days. The Marquette Interchange is one of the busiest interchanges in the entire state of Wisconsin," Michael Pyritz with the Wisconsin DOT said.
This closure is part of the I-43 bridges rehabilitation project. The work involving the ramp will be completed prior to the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration this summer. Detours will be posted to assist motorists looking to travel south along I-43/94.
"Crews are going to continue monitoring when they can possibly reopen the ramp for short periods of time to allow crowds to disperse from Lakefront events," Pyritz said.
The closure of the ramp was delayed until the completion of the I-94 restriping project. The restriping project is nearing completion and has reopened the second lane from I-794 to I-94 westbound in addition to adding an auxiliary lane between the Marquette Interchange and the Stadium Interchange. This creates a four lane configuration improving traffic flow out of downtown. Other changes associated with this project include the Jackson St. ramp. The ramp will be reconstructed as a part of the I-794/Hoan Bridge rehabilitation project which begins in late September.
With the various projects already underway and other projects scheduled to begin yet this summer, motorists should be aware of changing traffic patterns and potential delays.
