Racine woman charged after 10-month old tests positive for cocaine

RACINE — A Racine woman faces criminal charges after her 10-month-old son tested positive for cocaine.

The Racine Journal Times reports prosecutors charged 20-year-old Jamilynn Devoe and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Antonio Medina on June 13 with felony child neglect and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a criminal complaint, the boy was brought to an emergency room on April 10 and later taken to a hospital, where doctors said he had suffered a bruised head and lips. The child's blood tested positive for cocaine.

Devoe told a state Department of Human Services worker on April 30 that she and Medina use cocaine in their bedroom.

Online court records show Devoe does not have an attorney. Medina's attorney, David Saldana, didn't immediately return a message Thursday.
