West Allis police investigate possible child enticement incident; girl able to run away
WEST ALLIS -- West Allis police are looking for the suspect involved in a child enticement incident that happened on Thursday morning, May 12th. It happened just a couple blocks from an elementary school.
Longfellow School
"It's pretty frustrating," said Judy Scholtens. "They said the kid was in the alleyway so probably leaving from the backyard, taking the shortcut through the backyard to the alley to come to the school."
Police say the girl was walking to Longfellow Elementary School around 8:15 a.m., in an alley near 62nd and Grant. A man approached her and asked if she wanted candy.
The girl turned and ran.
The man chased her and tried to grab her jacket but she got away.
"It's a nice neighborhood. We've got a lot of kids. There's 10-15 kids on our block all about that same age and we just hope they catch the guy that's doing this," said Joshua Stanton.

The possible child enticement was unwelcome news in a neighborhood where a lot of kids walk to school.
"I don't let my kids go out by themselves and I don't let them walk to school by themselves -- and we try to keep them in front of our house," said Stanton.
Longfellow School notified parents, sending out an email asking that they, "Please take time to talk with your child(ren) at home" about strangers and safety.
"She's definitely going to learn about, more about stranger danger. I mean, my kids are really friendly with adults so I need to make sure she does not go up to anybody she doesn't know," said Scholtens.
The man was described as white, with a thin build, and a thin brown mustache. He was wearing a dark denim jacket, dark denim jeans, a white baseball cap and white tennis shoes.
Anybody with information regarding the incident is asked to call the West Allis Police Department at 414-302-8000.
