Port Washington police remind people to lock homes, cars after "hundreds of stolen items" recovered
PORT WASHINGTON -- Port Washington police are reminding residents to lock their doors -- after a burglary suspect was taken into custody and found with numerous stolen items.
Police said on Sunday, November 20th, just before 3:30 a.m., a Port Washington resident called police to report someone trying to enter her home.
Officers responded, and after a brief foot chase, a suspect was taken into custody.
Police said the suspect indicated he had a drug problem and had been breaking into homes and cars "for awhile."
Police found in his bedroom "hundreds of stolen items" -- including laptops, jewelry, prescription medications and more.
The suspect has been connected to at least six burglaries and dozens of thefts from autos.
Police are using this case to remind residents to lock their homes, garages and vehicles -- because police say all of the homes and vehicles were unlocked when entered in the middle of the night in this case.
