Shooting and crash investigated on Milwaukee`s south side
GREENFIELD (WITI) -- All lanes on 27th Street near Cold Spring Road in Greenfield were closed early Wednesday morning, September 3rd as police investigated a shooting and crash. All lanes reopened just before 7 a.m.
According to authorities, police responded to the area of 27th and Cold Spring Road around 1 a.m. for reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, officials found two injured males in the vehicle -- one with injuries from the crash and one with a gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, officials discovered bullet holes in the vehicle and casings on 27th Street.
Both male victims were transported to the hospital. Police say the driver's vehicle, a 27-year-old Palmyra man, sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Police have identified him as Joel Dammann.
Police say the vehicle's passenger, a 27-year-old man, is undergoing treatment for severe injuries, but it is believed that he will survive.
Police say it is believed the driver was acquainted with a gunman -- and was specifically targeted.
Police say they are following a number of leads in this case.
