Police: Man shoots six-year-old daughter near 51st, Fairmount

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Officials say a case of domestic violence led to shots being fired near 51st and Fairmount on Sunday, June 23rd -- leaving a six-year-old girl and her father dead.

Police say a man shot his six-year-old daughter, whom family members have identified as Jakyla King. Police believe the man then turned the gun on himself.

Officials say it began when a woman walked into a police station to report a domestic violence incident.

Police say while the incident was being reported, the man armed himself.

When police arrived on the scene, both the man and the six-year-old girl were dead.

It was an emotional scene in the area on Sunday afternoon, as family members gathered to express unimaginable grief and anger. At times, the emotional displays spilled onto the street.

Family member Tiffany Robinson says none of this should have happened, calling the crime scene devastating for all involved.

"Emotions are high between both families. We don't know what the argument was about, but whatever it was, it apparently escalated to this situation. It's horrible, specifically because I know the six-year-old little girl very closely. Just pray for the family. Pray for everybody," Robinson said.
