Police investigating death of baby boy, mother in custody

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a 14-month-old baby boy -- and the baby's mother has been taken into custody.

The baby boy was found dead inside a home on Eden Court, near 76th and Morgan on Sunday afternoon, March 9th.

Police were called out to the home around 1:15 p.m. by a concerned family member.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified told FOX6 News recently, the baby's mother and father's relationship was strained, and says the baby's father tried contacting her -- possibly concerned her life and the child's life were at risk.

"Led police to do the welfare check because she was not answering the phone," the neighbor told FOX6 News.

When officers arrived, they found the child unresponsive and the baby's 36-year-old mother semi-conscious after apparently attempting to overdose on pills.

Medical personnel were able to revive the mother. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

The baby's mother has been taken into custody.

The cause of the baby's death will be determined by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office in the coming days.

"I told the family that they're in our prayers," the neighbor told FOX6 News.
