Police: Intoxicated driver strikes semi head-on

WAUKESHSA (WITI) -- Waukesha police and fire responded to the scene of a head-on crash near the intersection of USH 18/E Moreland Blvd and Avalon Dr. early Thursday morning, May 8th.

According to officials, a 52-year-old man traveling eastbound, left of the median, struck a semi tractor and trailer that was traveling westbound.

The 52-year-old driver of the car sustained a broken hip, numerous contusions and facial cuts. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital via Flight For Life.

He is currently in stable condition.

Officials say he admitted to consuming intoxicants before the crash. He was issued a citation for operating while intoxicated, causing injury.

The 68-year-old driver of the semi was treated on scene by fire personnel for minor injuries.

Police say the semi driver was cooperative in the investigation and voluntarily submitted to a blood test. It is believed that he was not impaired.

Intoxication is believed to be the most contributing factor in the crash.
