Police have suspect after UW-Stout student from Saudi Arabia fatally assaulted

MENOMONIE — Menomonie police say they have a suspect in the fatal assault of a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Police said Friday the suspect is not a UW-Stout student and does not live in Dunn County. Police have sent their investigative findings to the district attorney's office and are withholding the suspect's name until prosecutors decide whether to charge the suspect.

Twenty-four-year-old Hussain Alnahdi was fatally assaulted Halloween weekend in downtown Menomonie. Alnahdi was from Saudi Arabia and was a junior majoring in business administration.

Investigators say they have found no evidence indicating the death was a hate crime.

UW-Stout spokesman Doug Mell says the university pledges its support of authorities' efforts to bring the suspect to justice, and continues to send thoughts and prayers to Alnahdi's family and friends.
