Pius XI High School student named Presidential Scholar

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's a prestigious award given to less than 150 students nationwide.  Only the best and the brightest are named Presidential Scholars.  One of those students is at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee.

"I'm just blessed," Presidential Scholar Redat Davison said. "I never thought this would happen to me."

She is being honored for her work in the visual arts, specifically fashion design.

"She has a tremendous love of what's she's doing and she just worked very, very hard," art teacher Cathy Burnett said.

Davison will travel to Washington D.C. in June.  Her work will be displayed at the Smithsonian and she will be recognized by President Obama.

Davison will graduate later this month.  She is headed to the Rhode Island School of Design in the fall.
