Pennsylvania community helps make young boy's Christmas wish come true

COGAN STATION, PA -- Thanks to the outpouring of support and generosity of people in Cogan Station, Pennsylvania an 8-year-old boy's only wish for Christmas was granted.

According to WTTV, 8-year-old Giovanni Hamilton didn't want toys or the latest video game system. Instead, Giovanni wanted a wheelchair-accessible van.

Giovanni has a rare genetic disorder called Schwartz-Jampel Syndrome and uses an electric wheelchair to get around, but his family couldn't afford the $33,000 price tag.

The community came together to help Giovanni's wish come true. Thanks to the outpouring of love, Giovanni and his family, raised enough money to buy a 2016 Dodge Caravan.

The van was unveiled to Giovanni as friends cheered his name. His teachers and parents in on the surprise too -- they were inside the van when it made its appearance!

"It's incredible. This community and everything that they have done for us is just incredible," said Shannon Algarin, Giovanni's mom.

The gift isn't just for Giovanni. It's also for mom and dad and with all of the donations the community gave, they don't owe a cent.

Giovanni's family plans to use the van not only to take him to school, but to his hospital visits as well.
