Police say a 24-year-old female driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle, and struck a tree in the median. A 34-year-old female passenger in that vehicle died at the scene. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Police say the 24-year-old driver was taken into custody following the accident for outstanding warrants.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in this crash. This accident remains under investigation.

People who live in the area say they were surprised to hear about the crash. "It's pretty upsetting that something like that would happen," Tim Dombroski said. Neighbors say they've seen cars speed through the intersection often, and are concerned about it. "That's why I go the other way to take my route to wherever I'm going, to keep it safe for myself," Gloria Sallis said.

Another neighbor says he's keeping the victim's family in his thoughts and prayers. "It's unfortunate. You hate to lose a life, period, but because of an accident, that's very unfortunate. It's a really sad time for the family, so we definitely have to keep them in our prayers," Ron Patten Sr. said.
