Officers responded to the scene of Papa John's near 27th and Ohio shortly after 1 a.m. for a shooting. Police say one man was shot in the chest and died at the scene. He has been identified as 24-year-old Joseph Griffin.
Just one hour before the shooting, the GameStop store next door had a midnight launch for a pair of new video games. Rumors spread that this event was the source of the shooting, which was not the case.
The owner of the Papa John's restaurant said the employee, a manager of the store, was closing the shop alone and let his friend (Griffin) in. The employee went to show him a gun and the weapon fired, killing Griffin.
Authorities say they have recovered the gun used in the shooting and one person is now in custody in connection with the shooting. It's not clear whether any charges will be filed in this case.
FOX6 News did not see a sign on the Papa John's storefront barring concealed weapons. It is also unclear whether the employee had a license to carry. Either way, the Papa John's restaurant owner made it clear he's not happy an employee took a gun inside the restaurant.
