One dead following accident near 16th & Clybourn

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred near N. 16th Street and W. Clybourn Avenue at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday, March 18th.

According to police, 63-year-old Bernard Veasy was traveling northbound on N. 16th Street when he apparently went unresponsive and struck a pole.

Veasy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner's report indicates Veasy had a possible medical event while driving and died despite EMS intervention.

According to the Medical Examiner's report, videos and witness statements showed that Veasy drifted through a green light at the intersection of N. 16th and W. Clybourn Avenue before coming to a stop against a Marquette University pillar.

Damage to the vehicle was reported to be minimal. No damage was observed to the interior of the vehicle and airbags were not deployed, according to the Medical Examiner's report.
