One child dead, another child and mother in hospital after triple shooting in Montfort

MONTFORT, Wis. (AP) — A six-year-old child is dead while another young child and a woman in the southwestern Wisconsin village of Montfort have been rushed to a hospital.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office said Friday that the three people were shot inside a home there.

The names of those shot were not released. The injured woman and an eight-year-old were airlifted to a hospital in Madison.

Sheriff Nate Dreckman's statement said there was no indication there was a continuing threat to the community. Deputies responded to a report of a shooting Friday afternoon. They blocked off the area around the scene. An investigation is underway.

Monfort is a community of 700 people about 60 miles west of Madison.
