Officials investigate after shots fired during eviction operation
MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and detectives responded to shots fired during an eviction at a north side Milwaukee home at about 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13th.
Sheriff’s deputies had been serving an eviction notice and called for backup from the SWAT team. Verbal attempts to contact the tenant, a 74-year-old man, by phone and loudspeaker were unsuccessful.
SWAT team members discovered the subject had barricaded himself in a bedroom, where he was found with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound above his right ear.
A 22-caliber revolver was found.
Milwaukee Fire Department personnel attempted resuscitation, and pronounced the subject dead at 11:20 a.m.
The Medical Examiner’s Office officially pronounced him dead at 12:38 p.m. and will make the determination on official cause of death.
The man’s identity is not being released pending notification of relatives.
