Nine-year-old boy pronounced dead after becoming trapped in grain bin

GRANT COUNTY (WITI) -- Grant County Sheriff's officials say a nine-year-old boy lost his life on Thursday, July 10th after he became trapped in a grain bin.

It happened in the 2500 block of Dry Hollow Road in Liberty Township -- just after 11:15 a.m.

Sheriff's officials say rescue and recovery operations were conducted by several fire departments and specialized teams.

Just after 12:30, the boy was located and he was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff's officials say their investigation shows that the half full, 7,000 to 8,000 bushel grain bin's auger had become stuck and inoperable.

The boy and several family members were attempting to fix the auger when the boy became trapped inside the grain bin.

Several agencies were called out to the scene.
