Neighbors say Sussex suspect showed off homemade bombs

SUSSEX (WITI) -- One man remains in custody Friday evening, October 25th after a bomb scare in Sussex a day earlier. Authorities found two improvised explosive devices inside his apartment.

FOX6 spoke with the individual who called police. That person lives in the area and says the suspect was showing off his homemade bombs about a week ago.

The neighbor's call to authorities ultimately sparked Thursday's activity.

Neighbors described the man as quiet and very handy.

"He took a regular bike and he put a motor on it and everybody was tripping off that like, look at him, he done built an electric bike himself," said Sergio Ratliff.

Some say the man mostly kept to himself but sometimes talked with neighbor kids.

"I think he used to sell candy to my kids. Kids used to tell me they had a candy machine over there. I'm not sure what it was," said Ratliff.

The suspect could face charges some time next week.
