Multiple-vehicle crash snarls traffic on I-94 near Seven Mile Road

RACINE -- Officials responded to a multiple vehicle crash at I-94 and Seven Mile Road that closed the freeway Sunday afternoon and backed up traffic for miles in Racine County.

It happened around 1:30 Sunday afternoon just south of the Seven Mile Road northbound off-ramp from I-94.

Town of Raymond police officials say four passenger vehicles, one pickup truck and one semi were involved in this crash. It is unclear at this time what caused this accident.

Officials say 10 people were transported to hospitals, two of them via Flight for Life, and one person was killed.

It was a chain reaction of cars and a semi-trailer that left vehicles bent and battered, and some of those inside in desperate need of care.

The trip to Milwaukee from Racine became a crawl for many on the freeway, and even the detours needed detours, as a second crash diverted already diverted traffic.

The Department of Transportation says the initial crash scene took about five hours to clean up.
