Mountain biker rescued after suffering significant injury in Jefferson County
PALMYRA -- An injured bicyclist had to be rescued in Jefferson County Monday night, September 14th.
Palmyra Fire Rescue and Eagle Fire Department were dispatched to the Emma Carlin Trail Head on County Highway Z in the Town of Palmyra around 7:20 p.m. for a report of a injured mountain bike rider in the Kettle Moraine State Forest.
The bicyclist had suffered a significant injury and was not able to assist in being removed from the trail system.
Several groups of firefighters were deployed onto the trail system on ATV's but found the trail system to not be passable due to rugged terrain and heavy vegetation. A search group of firefighters located the individual and began administering EMS care.
Once the exact location of the injured person was determined, additional personnel were deployed into the forest to remove the person to safety. Firefighters encountered thick vegetation and rugged terrain that required large numbers of personnel to carry the injured person several miles to safety.
The injured person was placed in an ambulance at approximately 3:20 a.m. -- eight hours after the initial call to 911.
The injured patient was flown to a Milwaukee area hospital by Flight for Life. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
