More than $1 million donated to 30 charities through Potawatomi's Heart of Canal Street program
MILWAUKEE -- For more than two decades, Potawatomi Hotel & Casino has provided meals for hungry children, safe places to stay, supplemented youth education and much more through Heart of Canal Street.
PHC donated $1,031,543 to 31 local children’s charities last Friday, December 11th -- the third straight year the program has surpassed the $1 million mark. In total, the casino has donated nearly $16 million since 1994.
Thirty charities received $31,051, while Potawatomi Hotel & Casino’s Charity of Choice, Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, received the first $100,000 of funds raised.
“The issue of gun violence affects everyone in southeastern Wisconsin,” said Director of Youth Services at Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Rob Cherry. “Our partnership with Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, along with their generous donation, allows us to take substantial steps in pursuing prevention of gun violence among our youth.”
