Moderate earthquake shakes region of northern Panama

(CNN) -- A moderate earthquake rattled a region of northern Panama near the border with Costa Rica early Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The agency rated the potential for damage from the 5.6 magnitude quake as "light."

Its epicenter was located in a sparsely populated area about 10 miles from the town of Changuinola, according to a USGS map.
