Milwaukee VA opens resource center for homeless veterans

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The public is invited to an open house for the Milwaukee VA’s Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC) at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 11th. The CRRC is located at 1818 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.



The CRRC, which is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, is one of 29 opening throughout the United States to help homeless veterans and those at risk of losing their homes. The center will offer veterans easy access to a range of services including treatment, housing, vocational assistance, benefit information and other community resources.

Although it’s not a shelter, the community center will include a mini-kitchen, food pantry, laundry and shower facility. Some of our partners who will offer services at the center include: the Milwaukee Vet Center, Center for Veterans Issues, Social Security Administration, Housing and Urban Development, Legal Action, Independence First, United Way, Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs, and Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The CRRC will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
