Milwaukee named "Playful City USA"
MILWAUKEE (WITI)--Milwaukee is being recognized for its commitment to play. The city was designated "Playful City USA" by Kaboom.
"It is important for the young people in this community not only to work, hard but also to play hard," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.
The city got the award because of its expansion and upgrading of Milwaukee playgrounds.
"The thing is, we provide such wonderful opportunities for kids, safe opportunities and we need to expand that," Ald. Michael Murphy said.
Monday, the city playgrounds opened and programs were in full swing.
"It's really fun!" 16-year-old Razia Edari said. "You spend your time here all day and you get exercise and you meet new people."
Edari is participating in the city summer tennis camp. It's one of several camps happening across Milwaukee's 27 city playgrounds.
"It's really fun to just get out and do something," she said.
