Milwaukee man arrested in connection with Washington County church burglary

WASHINGTON COUNTY --  A 52-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested Sunday, November 13th in connection with a burglary at the Resurrection Catholic Church located on Main Street in Allenton.

The burglary occurred around 12:15 p.m. while parishioners were in the basement of the church.

According to police, the parishioners were alerted to the burglary after they heard loud noises coming from upstairs. One witness went upstairs only to come face-to-face with a man holding a pry bar and another man exiting the room where the safe is located.

Officials said the second man walked into a hallway behind the altar and disappeared. The subject holding the pry bar fled, but not before the witness was able to get a suspect vehicle description.

A Wisconsin State Trooper was able to locate the suspect vehicle in St. Lawrence. The only occupant, a 52-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested.

Sheriff's officials say nothing was taken during the burglary -- but the suspects tried to gain access to the safe.

The search is ongoing for the second suspect in this case.
