Milwaukee man arrested in connection with Oak Leaf Trail assaults

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police arrested a 43-year-old Milwaukee man in connection with two sexual assaults that happened on Milwaukee's east side on Tuesday, October 8th.

In the first incident, a 27-year-old Milwaukee woman was sexually assaulted shortly before 3 p.m. while jogging on the Oak Leaf Trail in the 1600 block of N. Prospect.

The second incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman was jogging on the trail in the area of 2200 N. Oakland when a man stopped her and asked for money. The man then reportedly tried forcing the woman to the ground. Fortunately, a witness saw what was happening and scared the suspect away.

Responding officers were able to identify a suspect, and after a brief foot pursuit the suspect was arrested in the 1300 block of N. Lincoln Memorial Drive shortly after 4 p.m.

The suspect will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.  The DA review of the case is expected begin Thursday morning.
