Milwaukee County Christmas tree to be chosen by residents

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County is putting out the call for the annual Courthouse Christmas Tree. This year, the tree that makes that cut will be chosen by residents.

The tree will be lit during the Courthouse Tree lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, December 4th and it will adorn in the Milwaukee County Courthouse Rotunda.

Residents are encouraged to email a picture and a short description of their tree by November 1st to countyexec@milwcnty.com.

Three finalists will be chosen from the submissions and people will then vote for their favorite tree on County Executive Chris Abele’s Facebook page.

The ideal tree is symmetrical and should be about 20 feet tall. The tree has to be easily accessible to be removed by crane (i.e. not located under electrical lines or in a backyard). The Milwaukee County Parks Department will harvest the selected tree at no cost to the owner in mid-November.

The annual Courthouse Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place Wednesday, December 4th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Milwaukee County Courthouse, 901 N. 9th Street, Milwaukee.

The event is free and open to the public.
