Miguel Mercado pleads guilty in connection with double shooting
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned Miguel Mercado on Friday, January 24th, pleaded guilty in connection with a double shooting incident that occurred on September 8th.
19-year-old Jordan Henderson died as a result of the shooting.
21-year-old Gill Morales was also charged in connection with this shooting. Mercado and Morales are each charged with one count of first-degree reckless homicide, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
According to the criminal complaint, the shooting incident occurred near S. 20th and W. Mitchell. Police say the shooting occurred over a stolen bicycle.
The complaint indicates that Henderson, along with his cousin, were traveling in the area of S. 20th Street and W. Mitchell when they spotted two men riding bicycles. According to the complaint, Henderson recognized one of the bicycles as one that had been stolen from his residence several weeks prior.
After recognizing the bicycle, Henderson made a U-Turn and drove towards to the two men with the intent to confront them. During that time, the two individuals on the bikes, later identified as Morales and Mercado, stopped — and Morales allegedly pulled out a revolver and began firing shots towards the vehicle.
The complaint indicates that Morales fired the revolver three to four times. As a result of the shooting, Henderson sustained a gunshot wound to the head and his cousin sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Police say Henderson was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car.
As a result of Mercado's guilty plea, a scheduled trial has been cancelled. Mercado is now due for sentencing in March.
