Mequon 7th grader finishes tied for 8th place in National Geographic Bee
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Mequon 7th grader Thomas Wright finished in a tie for 8th place at the National Geographic Bee held in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, May 25th.
Wright attends University School of Milwaukee. He earned a spot in Wednesday’s finals after finishing in the top ten in Monday’s preliminary round of the national competition.
Wright competed against 53 other students, ranging in age from 10 to 14 years old, from the other 49 U.S. states, as well as competitors from the District of Columbia, Atlantic Territories, Pacific Territories, and Department of Defense Dependents Schools.
This year’s National Geographic Bee was moderated by journalist and humorist Mo Rocca. Both the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild will broadcast a recorded version of the finals this Friday, May 27th at 7 p.m. local time.
