Menomonee Falls residents warned about putting checks in mail

MENOMONEE FALLS (WITI) -- Menomonee Falls residents are being warned to watch what they put in the mail. That's because criminals are stealing checks from envelopes that are being left in mailboxes for pickup.

Lt. Kevin Von Banks from the Menomonee Falls Police Department says this fraudulent activity has been going on for about a month.

Von Banks says it's all the same -- criminals are stealing personal checks from the mail -- making phony checks with your information -- and your money ends up being used.

As police alert all of the area businesses of this criminal activity, they're urging residents to make payments in person. If you need to mail a check, they suggest dropping it off at the post office.

"Crime has no boundaries whether it's Menomonee Falls or any other community anybody could be a target by this means," said Lt. Von Banks.
