Man, woman shoot themselves during standoff on Hwy. 41 in Oshkosh

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WITI) -- A man and a woman are dead after shooting themselves during a standoff on Highway 41 in Oshkosh.

Winnebago County sheriff's officials heard two shots fired just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 28th from the suspect vehicle.

Officers say the man and woman matched the description of the suspects involved in a robbery at a tavern earlier in the day.

Law enforcement didn't fire their weapons during the standoff.

The southbound lanes of Highway 41 between Highways 76 to 45 are expected to be closed for several hours. The northbound lanes have reopened.

Drivers are asked to use the following alternate route: SB traffic should exit at US 10, take US 10 WB to US 45, take US 45 SB back to US 41.
