Man rescued from Lake Winnebago Sunday after snowmobile crash
CALUMET COUNTY (WITI) -- Calumet County Sheriff's officials say a man had to be rescued after crashing his snowmobile off the east shore of Lake Winnebago on Sunday, December 15th.
Sheriff's officials say the 33-year-old Fond du Lac man told them he was traveling east on the lake with his brother when he crashed into an ice shove approximately 3.5 miles of the east shore of Lake Winnebago.
The man could not get his snowmobile started again to bring himself into shore, so he called 911. The man told 911 dispatchers he felt he had broken ribs.
Rescue crews had a difficult time locating the man with blowing snow on the lake creating "white out" conditions.
Officials say there was also a large area of open water near the crash site.
Sheriff's officials say at no time did the victim go into the open water.
Rescue crews were eventually able to reach the man, and he was tended to by ambulance paramedics.
Sheriff's officials say alcohol was not a factor in this incident.
Several agencies were dispatched to assist with this rescue.
