Man arrested after child pornography found on smart phone
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police have taken a 24-year-old man into custody after child pornography was discovered on his smart phone. Jared Overturf apparently left his cell phone on a bench outside a Main Street bar in Racine. When a concerned citizen attempted to locate the owner, they found several disturbing images.
"They had removed the memory card from the phone and put it in their computer and on it they discovered images they believed were child porn," said Sgt. Jessie Metoyer of the Racine Police Department. "We are so thankful the citizen brought that to our attention."
According to a criminal complaint, there were 69 images on the memory card, some believed to be adolescent children posing, partially nude, in sexually suggestive positions.
"At least four were identified as females between the ages of 10 to 15 years of age," said Sgt. Metoyer.
Police have been looking for Overturf for quite some time. Officials say the man has used aliases in other states and is wanted on warrants.
"He is a sex offender and is required to register for a lifetime no matter where he moves," added Sgt. Metoyer.
Police say Overturf never registered as a sex offender. FOX6 found his home on Green St. is directly across from a school.
"Any time we have a case like this it's concerning to the community as a whole," said Racine County District Attorney Rich Chiapete. "We take this extremely seriously and we intend to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law."
Authorities urge parents who have young children that may have been in Overturf's company to speak with them and make sure there was no inappropriate contact.
