Madison woman's vehicle vandalized by an unlikely suspect, and he can't be arrested or charged!

MADISON, Wis.-- A Madison woman's vehicle was vandalized on Christmas Eve and again two days later by an unlikely suspect! Police have the vandal, but he can't be arrested or charged...because he's a turkey!

FOX6's sister station WMTV in Madison reports the first time the turkey pecked her car was after the woman had just gotten the car back from an auto body shop. Her vehicle had been washed and waxed.

The victim believes the turkey likes the shine of her car.

"I guess the turkey could see himself and was pecking at it," the victim said.

The car is scratched all over the body and fender.

"I'm sure he's been doing this more than what times we caught him pecking at my car," she said.

In the City of Madison, like many other parts of the country, the wild turkey has mounted a prolific come back. Locally, they've been known to chase mail carriers and block traffic.

Yet, in the 1930s, "this grand game bird was on the verge of extinction," according to the National Wild Turkey Federation. The non-profit group reports the American population has grown from 30,000 to 7 million thanks to wildlife restoration programs.

In the meantime, the Madison police have suggested positioning a mirror to distract the turkey away from the car.
