Macy's celebrates grand opening at Southridge Mall

GREENDALE -- As the doors to Macy's in Southridge Mall opened, crowds of people made their way in to take a look at what the new store has to offer.

"It's a high-class store and this is what I like and this is what Southridge needs," shopper Rosemary Steiner said.

The two level, 150,000 square foot store is Macy's sixth location in Wisconsin. "We're very excited. We've been working very hard for this day. So it's been a good journey," Macy'sSouthridge Store Manager Jennifer Duffy said.

The addition of Macy's in Southridge also brought 160 new jobs, and Greendale officials hope it will also give a boost to the village's economy. "Southridge sits in the center of the 76th Street business corridor and as such, will be the economic generator to propel other development in and around it" Greendale Village President John Hermes said.

To celebrate the grand opening, Macy's gave the first 500 customers a $10 gift card to the store and three lucky people got a $500 Macy's gift card. Although not everyone got a gift card, the goal was to keep bringing people back to Macy's and Southridge.

"I've come here since I was young and it's just so nice to see it updated, revamped, revived. It just seems so nice looking now," shopper Ryan Antross said.

"We think Southridge is going to be become the next shopping destination for the entire region and we invite people down here to see this brand new sparkling store," Hermes said.

Grand opening events were planned at Macy's all day Wednesday, March 14th.
