Lightning causes fire in Grafton home



GRAFTON -- Lightning is being blamed for the cause of a house fire in Grafton. The Grafton Volunteer Fire Chief says shortly after 1:00 a.m. Thursday, May 3rd a lightning strike hit outside a home on Tanager Drive in Grafton.

Officials say after the lightning hit outside the home it traveled through a ground line into the home's electrical box causing a fire to break out in the basement of the home.

Officials were able to contain the fire to the basement of the home. Authorities say the home did have working smoke detectors and everyone made it out safely.

Officials say damage is estimated at about $5,000.
