Lasha Wooten pleads guilty in connection with fatal crash
Lasha Wooten
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Lasha Wooten pleaded guilty on Thursday, February 7th in connection with a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Lovers Lane in Milwaukee back in September.
Wooten was found guilty of Knowingly Operating a Motor Vehicle While Suspended -- Causing Death.
David Curtis drove the motorcycle that slammed into a car stopped to turn. Curtis' wife, Gisele was riding with him. Both were ejected from the motorcycle, and Gisele was killed.
That day, police arrested Lasha Wooten, the driver of the car Curtis struck. Court documents obtained by FOX6 News show Wooten never even should have been on the road that day.
Wooten is charged with knowingly operating a motor vehicle without a valid license causing a death. In fact, Wooten's license was suspended in July of 2012, and Wooten admitted to officers after the crash she smoked marijuana earlier in the day.
The criminal complaint in this case also indicates Wooten's brake lights were out at the time of the crash.
Wooten's sister spoke with FOX6 News after the accident in September. She said her whole family felt legitimately awful about what happened that day on Lovers Lane.
"She's very distraught. We're disturbed because of my sister and the family who's missing their loved one right now, so we keep them in our prayers," Wooten's sister said.
Sentencing for Wooten is scheduled for March 8th.
