Kenosha health officials investigate outbreak of Salmonella, samples sent for testing

KENOSHA COUNTY (WITI) -- The Kenosha County Division of Health is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella.

The case was reported to the county from a doctor's office at the end of last week. It's not clear if it's an adult or child involved.

Officials with the Division of Health say nine food and stool samples were sent to Madison for testing by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Monday, May 18th. The test results may be available by the middle to end of this week -- and will be used to help identify the source or sources of the outbreak.

Salmonella is a food-based bacteria. The CDC estimates approximately 1.2 million illnesses and approximately 450 deaths occur due to non-typhoidal Salmonella annually in the United States.
