Joy Global to lay off or eliminate 56 jobs in addition to temporary closure of Milwaukee plant

MILWAUKEE -- Joy Global has informed officials with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development that it will lay off or eliminate 56 jobs.

The mining company plans to close its facility on Orchard Street in Milwaukee.

The notice to the state says 51 union employees will be laid off and five non-union workers will be terminated.

The job cuts are expected to begin on January 6th.

This is in addition to a temporary closure of the plant on National Avenue. Those layoffs involved 113 employees.
