Johnson Controls to lay off 197 employees in October; Seven impacted at The Sportsman Channel in New Berlin

WEST ALLIS -- Johnson Controls in West Allis and The Sportsman Channel in New Berlin are set to lay off workers this fall, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has received the following Wisconsin Business Closing and Mass Layoff (WARN) notices:

Johnson Controls Inc., West Allis–  Johnson Controls Inc. will be indefinitely suspending work on Project Unity at its facility located at 801 South 60th St., West Allis, WI. This action is expected to affect 197 employees beginning on October 14, 2015. The Milwaukee Workforce Development Board will provide rapid response services to the affected workers.

The Sportsman Channel, New Berlin – As previously reported, The Sportsman Channel will be closing its facility located at 2855 South James Drive, Suite 101, New Berlin, WI. The second round of the reduction in force will impact approximately 7 employees with layoffs beginning on October 31, 2015. WOW Workforce Development Board will provide Rapid Response services to the affected workers.

 

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Dislocated Worker Program provides transition assistance to workers and companies affected by permanent worker layoffs. The Program's local Rapid Response Teams help companies and worker representatives develop and implement a practical transition plan based on the size of the layoff event. Types of services include:


    Workers affected by permanent layoff may also access basic re-employment services at no charge through the state's Job Centers. Some services, including training assistance, may be an option for some workers after enrolling in one or more of DWD's workforce development programs.

    While all companies faced with permanent worker layoffs are encouraged to seek assistance from the local Rapid Response Teams, some companies may be required to give 60 days notice before a mass layoff or closing under federal and/or state law.
